Hey there, Brisbane! Your friendly CPR experts here with some life-saving knowledge. Ever wondered when it’s time to stop CPR? It’s a crucial question that doesn’t get asked enough. Whether you’re a first-time learner or looking for a refresher, understanding when to stop is just as important as knowing how to start. So, let’s break it down into four key situations you need to know.
1. The Cavalry Has Arrived
When professional help shows up (like paramedics or other emergency responders), it’s time to let them take over. They’ve got the fancy equipment and extra training to give the best possible care.
2. You’re Too Exhausted to Continue
CPR is hard work! If you’re too tired to keep going effectively, it’s okay to stop. Remember, poor-quality CPR isn’t helpful. Here’s a pro tip: get as many people as you can to help. Create a tag team and take turns. This way, you can maintain high-quality CPR for longer.
3. The Scene Becomes Unsafe
Your safety comes first. If something dangerous is happening around you (like a fire or collapsing building), it’s time to get out of there. You can’t help anyone if you become a victim too.
4. Signs of Life Return
If the person starts breathing normally on their own or shows other clear signs of life, you can stop CPR. Keep a close eye on them until help arrives, though. It’s worth noting that while CPR is crucial, people don’t normally revive from CPR alone. That’s where defibrillators come in – they’re becoming more common in public spaces and give a much better chance of revival. In our classes, we’ll teach you how to use them effectively!

Hi there! I'm James Macy.. I began my first aid journey back in 2012, with my first "first aid" course. It was after a hiking accident where a friend had to be airlifted. Over the years, my first aid skills grew, I volunteered at equestrian events and local shows and became a first aid trainer.
